The Education Science Studies (ESS)

The Education Science Studies (ESS) serve as preparation for scientifically sound and professional activity in school and teaching.  It is mandatory for all teaching students and consists of several modules. It is part of both the Bachelor of Education and the Master of Education. In the Bachelor of Education, you will be prepared academically for the orientation internship in Module 1 and follow it up in the seminars of Module 2. The Institute of Education (Department of School Pedagogy) is responsible for the educational science program. On the Institute of Education’s website, you can find its module guide. Subjects and Subject Didactics
The organization of studies in your chosen subjects is the responsibility of the faculties or subjects. On their websites, you can also find the module guide of each subject. All questions on the subject study program must be discussed with the responsible subject advisory service. In many subjects for the teaching profession, there is a specific Subject Advisory Service. Subject didactics are a part of the respective subject study program. The courses on subject didactics are listed in the electronic course catalog of the subjects.

Orientation Internship
The Orientation Internship is prepared and followed up through a lecture and a seminar in the Educational Science Program. The Tübingen School of Education offers the possibility of an alternative orientation internship: Lehr:werkstatt.

Bringing Forward Credits from the Master of Education
The prerequisite for bringing forward master’s credits is that at least 150 CP have been acquired in the Bachelor of Education. If this prerequisite is met, a total of 24 CP may be brought forward, which can be distributed between the two subjects and the educational sciences. The intention to bring forward credits from the Master of Education must be registered in the Central Examination Office with the contact person of the relevant subject, using one’s student email address and with mention of one’s matriculation number. If the requirement (150 CP in the Bachelor of Education) is met, the master’s modules that can be brought forward will be activated in alma, where course registration and examination registration take place.
