Career prospects for sociologists

"What are you studying?"
"And what can you do with that?"

The answer is that there is a broad spectrum of possible professions after getting a degree in Sociology. The real question is: What do you want to do with your degree in Sociology? What are you interested in? Where do you want to work?

On the website you will find interviews with sociologists working in various professional fields.

Literature on the subject

We have compiled literature on the subject of career perspectives for sociologists.

The Praxis & Beruf team of the WiSo Faculty also provides literature on the topics of career orientation and application for loan.

Career events

At the Institute of Sociology the following course takes place every semester
"Und was macht man dann damit?! Berufsorientierung für Soziolog:innen"
by Dr. Daniel Pastuh (Friedrich Schiller University Jena).
After an overview of possible occupational fields for sociologists, the event offers an informal framework for exchange with fellow students who have already gained initial practical experience in various occupational fields. There will also be the opportunity for individual discussions with the lecturer on further personal questions on the subject of career orientation.
The next date will probably be in September 2021.

In addition, you will have the opportunity to orient yourself professionally and acquire relevant practical knowledge in other events. On the central university website for career guidance/career paths you can also find reports about previous events, screencasts on various professional fields, interviews with alumni and a lot more.

Would you like to participate as an alumni in a career event? Then simply fill out the Flyer for the Alumni-Career Path-Network.
