The Brechtbau Library (BBB) at the Faculty of Humanities is responsible for the area of Modern Languages, as well as for Media Studies and Rhetoric. It is located on the 1st and 2nd floors of the Brechtbau building (Neuphilologikum) at Wilhelmstr. 50, where most of the respective departments are located, too. Academic staff, students and library staff are represented on the library committee.
Current specialist literature is acquired and made available in cooperation with the departments. Our holdings of approx. 380,000 media units and 300 current journals make the BBB one of the largest specialized libraries in the field of European philology in Germany. They also include many works from other humanities and social science disciplines that are relevant to the research of our users.
The BBB is the largest institution in the Tübingen library system after the central University Library, with which we collaborate closely - among other things in the constantly increasing acquisition of electronic media. Digital media and print holdings are all indexed in the joint Catalog plus; the access to numerous databases expands the literature search options.
Our library can be used by anyone with an interest in research, borrowing options depend on one's status within the university. The library has space for around 750 users, including computer pools and a group working room, and offers further services to support academic work, from training courses and scanning devices to online publication.
