The Working Group "Space-based Astronomy" deals with multi-wavelength observations aiming at understanding the formation and evolution of cool stars
and works experimentally in the field of ultraviolet (UV) astronomy.

Space-based Astronomy focuses on following projects:

• Identification of flare stars among variable X-ray sources
• X-ray flares on young stars
• Origin of the X-ray emission in accreting low-mass stars
• Magnetic activity on ultracool dwarfs

In the field of UV-detector development the following topics are addressed:

• Development of the detector electronics (FPGA programming)
• Evaluation of different algorithms for the analysis of detector signals
• Development of new photo cathodes (growth of thin films (photocathodes) and steps to improve the quantum efficiency: from the light absorption of UV-light to the emission of photoelectrons)
• Improvement of the detector (sealing the detector body under ultra-high vacuum, optimizing the sealing areas and further steps to produce space qualified imaging detectors)
