Selina Bernarding has been a research associate at Collaborative Research Center 1718 “Common Ground: Cognition – Grammar – Communication” since October 1, 2025, working on Project C1: Construction and Destruction of Common Ground in Polarized Political Discourse. She studied Rhetoric and Political Science at the University of Tübingen, including a study abroad semester in Portland, Oregon, USA. From 2019 to 2023, she was a research fellow at the interdisciplinary DFG Research Training Group 1808 “Ambiguity: Production and Reception.” From 2023 to 2025, she was a research assistant at the Institute of Rhetoric in the Chair of Rhetoric and Science Communication under Prof Dr Olaf Kramer, as well as in the summer semester of 2024 for the BMBFTR project KoKoKom “Debating Sex and Gender: Conflict and Consensus.” She completed her dissertation project, titled “Rhetoric and Cooperation in Diplomacy,” under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Joachim Knape (General Rhetoric) and Prof. Dr. Susanne Winkler (English Linguistics) in February 2026.
