Mathematical Methods in Computer Science

Stephan Eckstein

Junior professor for "Mathematical Methods in Computer Science" at the Faculty of Science at the University of Tübingen
Stephan Eckstein is a cluster member and is supported with cluster funds for a research project.

Research Interests

Stephan Eckstein's research is at the intersection of probability theory and machine learning, with a focus on statistical distances. The studied topics are also related to stochastic optimization and numerical approximation. The goal of his research is to contribute to the development of provably efficient and reliable computational methods in probabilistic settings. This entails the efficient use of data as well as computational resources. One particular aspect which is studied to improve efficiency is the incorporation of domain knowledge, i.e., knowledge about the parts of the world which give rise to the observed data.
