Junior Research Group Publishes Open-Access Study on Early Stone Tool Efficiency in AJBA

We are excited to announce a new publication from our Junior Research Group in the American Journal of Biological Anthropology (AJBA), led by Brie Eteson and colleagues.

This open-access article presents pioneering findings from their electromyography (EMG) experiments, shedding light on the factors influencing early stone tool efficiency—specifically in hammerstone nut-cracking and flake cutting.

These results offer valuable evolutionary insights into early hominin behaviors.

The study, titled "“How handy was early hominin ‘know-how’?” An experimental approach exploring efficient early stone tool use”, is co-authored by Junior Research Group members Brie Eteson and Simona Affinito, in collaboration with Elena T. Moos from the Department of Early Prehistory and Quaternary Ecology at the University of Tübingen and the group leader, Dr. Fotios Alexandros Karakostis.
