Zusammenfassung
Wir möchten Mechanismen aufklären, mit welchen bakterielle Phytopathogene die Erkennung von PGN durch das pflanzliche Immunsystem verhindern. Zum einen möchten wir bakterielle Inhibitoren des Arabidopsis Lysozyms LYS1 identifizieren. Zum anderen werden wir der Frage nachgehen, ob sich PGN phytopathogener Bakterien (z.B. Pseudomonas syringae pv tomato, wirts-adaptiert) durch spezifische strukturelle Merkmale von PGN nicht-adaptierter Bakterien (z.B. E. coli) unterscheidet, welche dann Schutz vor gegen LYS1-Enyzmaktivität geben. Im zweiten Teil des Projektes wollen wir bakterielle Komponenten identifizieren, die mit der Bindung an bzw. der Erkennung von immunogenen PGN-Fragmenten durch die PGN-Rezeptorproteine LYM1, LYM3 und CERK1 interferieren.
Summary
We are planning to elucidate mechanisms by which bacterial phytopathogens interfere with the recognition of PGN by the plant immune system. Part one aims at the identification of bacterial inhibitors for the Arabidopsis lysozyme LYS1. Moreover, we will address the question if specific structural features8of the PGN of phytopathogenic bacteria (e.g. Pseudomonas syringae pv tomato, adapted to their host) differ from non-adapted bacteria (e.g. E. coli) to confer protection against LYS1 enzymatic activity. In part two of this project we envisage identifying bacterial components interfering with binding to and/or recognition of immunogenic PGN fragments via the PGN receptor proteins LYM1, LYM3 and CERK1.
