This Working Group explores how East Asian minority communities have created and sustained cultural heritage across the postcolonial Global South through the interconnected experiences of labour, religion, and family life. Focusing on Chinese and Japanese communities in Southeast Asia and Latin America, the project examines how festivals, temples, processions, oral histories, and community traditions preserve histories that have often been overlooked in national narratives.

Using partner-based documentation and collaboration with scholars and community organisations across Asia and Latin America, the project will produce a short documentary, public lectures, interviews, and digital heritage materials, strengthening University of Tübingen’s growing engagement with Trans-Pacific perspectives in Global South Studies.
