After preliminary studies at the University of Tübingen, Philip Hahn attended Somerville College, University of Oxford, from 2001 until 2004, when he graduated with BA First-class honours. Having received the MPhil degree from St. John's College, University of Cambridge, he went to the University of Frankfurt/Main for his PhD. After the PhD, he worked as researcher in a collaborative project of the University of Frankfurt/Main and the Forschungsbibliothek Gotha from 2009 until 2011. In June 2020, he passed his Habilitation at the University of Tübingen and received the venia legendi for Modern History. His academic teachers were, among others, Judith Pollmann, Ulinka Rublack, and Luise Schorn-Schütte.
