At the University of Tübingen you can find a strong and established computer science department together with the renowned Faculty of Medicine - ideal conditions for the Bachelor's degree course in Medical Informatics, which we have offered since the winter semester 2012/13.

Target group

The Bachelor's degree course in Medical Informatics trains you as a computer scientist with additional skills in the fields of medicine, biology and natural sciences. Graduates of medical informatics can successfully apply computer science and IT methods in the diverse areas of healthcare and thus help to meet the future challenges of our society.

Program contents

The Bachelor's degree course in Medical Informatics teaches the basics of computer science, medicine and biology. In addition, important skills are taught, such as general learning, working and presentation techniques as well as the ability to work systematically (key qualifications).
Teaching takes place in a balanced mixture of lectures, exercises, seminars, and practicals.
The modular Bachelor's degree course in Medical Informatics is divided into three academic years, which begin in the winter semester.

Study goals

The interdisciplinary Bachelor's degree course in Medical Informatics trains students to become computer scientists who consistently acquire additional subject-specific expertise from the outset through medically-oriented additional subjects. The aim is to train computer scientists with additional qualifications in the fields of medicine, healthcare and natural sciences in order to constructively analyze problems with the respective experts and develop solutions based on these, for example in the fields of medical data analysis, medical image processing, embedded systems in medical technology, software certification and information processing in healthcare.

Occupational fields and perspectives

Medical informatics graduates can be employed in all areas of the IT sector, particularly in the diverse professional fields of medical information processing and healthcare. The additional teaching of skills in scientific work forms the basis for medical informatics graduates to deepen their academic qualifications in a Master's degree in medical informatics or a Master's degree in computer science as well as medical-related Master's degree courses.
The Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Science, Research and Arts approved the establishment of the new degree course on 26 June 2012 and it has been offered since the winter semester 2012/13. The Master's degree course in Medical Informatics has also been offered since the 2016/2017 winter semester.
