Ammerbuch-Pfäffingen, Lüsse

At the known site “Lüsse” north of Ammerbuch-Pfäffingen geomagnetic measurements could visualize a system of ditches which is a previously unknown phenomenon for the Early Neolithic in the Oberes Gäu area. Among the finds from this settlement area there are also some fragments of La Hoguette ceramics which are regularly found on early LBK sites in Württemberg.

The Early Neolithic date of the settlement ditch was confirmed by a first excavation in spring 2018. According to first observations the ditch was filled in during the first phase of the Early Neolithic and then built over with further houses from the second phase of the LBK. Numerous charred botanical remains and some human skeletal elements come from the filling of the trench.

The excavations continued in 2019, 2020 and 2021. Middle Neolithic settlement remains were also found on the upper slope of the site. A linear structure north of the Early Neolithic settlement ditch could be identified as a Roman road with a summer and a winter driveway. The remains of a Hallstatt burial mound were also documented on the lower slope of this site.
