Judy Lee has been a research associate at the Chair of Greater China Studies since October 2022. She studied Politics and Law at the University of Hong Kong and Hispanic and Latin American Studies at the Universidad de Salamanca in Spain.

Having participated in translation and editing work related to Sino-US relations, Chinese history, Hong Kong colonial history, Hong Kong’s external relations, policy research and constitutional reform in Hong Kong and produced an M.A. project analysing political contents of Argentine tango lyrics, her field of interest is diverse and multidisciplinary.

Her research focuses on Hong Kong politics, language and culture. She is also involved in book projects on Hong Kong history, religions, pop culture and social movements. Her most recent publications include the Traditional Chinese translation of the memoir of Chris Patten, the last British Governor of Hong Kong, published in Taipei in 2023, and of To Kill a Democracy: India's Passage to Despotism, authored by Debasish Roy Chowdhury and John Keane.

Judy Lee ist seit Oktober 2022 wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiterin am Lehrstuhl für Greater China Studies. Sie studierte Politikwissenschaft und Recht an der University of Hong Kong und Hispanistik und Lateinamerikastudien an der Universidad de Salamanca in Spanien.

Durch ihre Beteiligung an Übersetzungs- und Redaktionsarbeiten zu den Themen Beziehungen zwischen China und den USA, chinesische Geschichte, Kolonialgeschichte Hongkongs, Außenbeziehungen Hongkongs, politische Forschung und Verfassungsreform in Hongkong sowie eine Masterarbeit, in der sie die politischen Inhalte argentinischer Tango-Texte analysierte, ist ihr Interessengebiet vielfältig und multidisziplinär.

Ihre Forschung fokussiert sich auf die Politik Hongkongs sowie Sprache und Kultur. Außerdem ist sie an Buchprojekten über die Geschichte Hongkongs, Religionen, Popkultur und soziale Bewegungen beteiligt. Zu ihren jüngsten Veröffentlichungen gehören die traditionellen chinesischen Übersetzungen der Memoiren von Chris Patten, dem letzten britischen Gouverneur von Hongkong, die 2023 in Taipeh veröffentlicht wurden, sowie „To Kill a Democracy: India's Passage to Despotism“ von Debasish Roy Chowdhury und John Keane.
