Research Focus
Lukas Eggert primarily focuses on nationalism and identity research on contemporary Greater China as well as the foreign policy of the associated entities. His two master theses dealt with cross-strait relations on the background of constructivist approaches as well as with German foreign policy towards the PRC as perceived by New Liberalism. He also enjoys following the latest digital trends in China and is currently researching on the video game and streaming scene in the PRC as part of his PhD. Special attention is paid to the influence of video games and streaming on the lives of Chinese citizens/users. This includes which identities and forms of nationalism are prevalent in the sector, how these are constructed by the different levels involved, and finally which goals (e.g. authoritarian resilience, increase of happiness, escapism) this identity construction pursues.
