Three IFIB junior scientists honored by the Knoop foundation
On October 11, 2019 the Career Forum in Life Sciences took place at the Interfaculty Institute of Biochemistry (IFIB). As a highlight of this event, the “Elisabeth und Franz Knoop-Stiftung” awarded three prizes totaling 10,000 € to outstanding junior scientists in the field of biochemistry. The “Elisabeth und Franz Knoop-Stiftung” aims to promote biochemical research at the University of Tübingen. In particular, the foundation supports excellent junior researchers working in the field of medically oriented biochemistry. After 2015 and 2017, the “Preis für Biochemie an der Universität Tübingen” was awarded for the third time. In addition, two travel awards were announced.
Dr. Paul Vogel (now doing a postdoc in Stanford, USA, formerly Stafforst Lab, IFIB) received the main award for his PhD work on site-directed RNA editing. The travel awards went to Daniela Vitali (Rapaport Lab, IFIB) and Daniel Stehle (Feil Lab, IFIB). Daniela will travel to Israel (Prof. Maya Schuldiner, Weizmann Institute of Sciences, Rehovot) to perform a high-throughput screening to study the biogenesis of proteins localized in two different cellular compartments. Daniel visited the laboratory of Prof. Wolfgang Weninger in Australia (Centenary Institute of Cancer Medicine and Cell Biology, Sydney) to learn an innovative optical imaging method that helps him to master his PhD project on cell signaling in melanoma.
