This seminar is jointly offered by the chairs of Prof. Dr. Martin Biewen (Statistics, Econometrics and Quantitative Methods) and Prof. Dr. Joachim Grammig (Econometrics, Statistics and Empirical Economics).

Time and place for the preliminary meeting will be announced on this page. Participants are asked to have a rough idea regarding a possible topic of their bachelor thesis when attending the preliminary meeting.

• The aim of the bachelor thesis is to show the ability of a student to discuss a problem or a subject in statistics or econometrics in a scientific way.
• The bachelor thesis covers a maximum of 15 pages text (old examination regulation [Pruefungsordnung]) and 20 pages for the new examination regulation respectively. Extensive figures and tables should be deferred to the appendix. The appendix is not included in the page limit.
• The final grade is based on the written thesis (70 percent) and the final presentation (30 percent).
• Students should choose their topic on their own. The topic should be discussed in advance with the supervisor. For an empirical thesis, students need to find, process and handle the datasets themselves.
• Students have to submit a printed copy and an electronic version (pdf-format).
• The bachelor thesis and the presentation should be in English (but German thesis and presentations will be accepted as well).

• Formal guidelines for the written thesis are provided in the following document.
• Orthography, grammar and style of the thesis will be taken into account for grading.
• We suggest to use Latex to prepare the thesis and the presentation. The zip-file contains a document "vorlage.tex" which illustrates the use of Latex and provides installation information. "vorlage.pdf" is the result when compiling the tex-file.
• The presentation of the final thesis has to be in Powerpoint, Latex or similar. There is no need for handouts.
