This module is a required course in the Master’s program for teacher education students (M.Ed.) and consists of a lecture and an accompanying technology tutorial. In the lecture, students acquire research-based and practice-relevant knowledge regarding the use of digital media in the classroom, reflect on this from a didactic perspective, and critically evaluate digital education in light of its societal implications.
In the first part of the semester, the focus is on topics related to the use of digital media to support learning, such as the use of multimedia content in the classroom, digital tools for feedback and performance assessment, and the design and support of cooperative learning formats. In the second part of the semester, central societal issues are addressed, such as socialization and education in a mediatized world, as well as power and violence in and through media. The goal is to reflect critically and in a nuanced manner on the societal implications of digital media in the school context.
In the technical tutorials, the knowledge acquired in the lecture is applied by practically testing teaching scenarios with digital media and systematically relating them to school teaching and learning processes. The lecture takes place every semester and is taught by Prof. Andreas Lachner.
