Zentrum für Datenverarbeitung (ZDV) (data center)

Actions Taken by the ZDV

Antivirus Protection

The Windows computers managed by the ZDV as part of Client Management are equipped with antivirus software. The ZDV ensures that virus signatures are regularly updated.

Incoming and outgoing email traffic through the ZDV’s mail servers is continuously monitored for viruses and spam.

Network Security

The ZDV operates firewalls at various points within the university network to block unwanted traffic and attacks.

Additionally, some ports are completely or partially blocked on the central routers of the university network. Individual IP addresses or login IDs can also be blocked if necessary. For more details, please refer to the Blocking page.

Certification

The UNITUE-CA (Certification Authority) operated by the ZDV issues personal certificates that enable trusted email communication through signatures and encryption.

Server certificates can also be issued, allowing the establishment of secure connections (e.g., HTTPS).

Additional Information

The ZDV offers various courses on the topic of security. Detailed information can be found in the respective course descriptions.

A very good introduction to the topic of “Internet Security” can be found at the organization Deutschland sicher im Netz (Germany Safe on the Net). This nationwide alliance brings together renowned partners from politics, business, and society to make the internet safer.

Further information, such as current virus alerts, can be found on the website of the Federal Office for Information Security (BSI).
