As Head of the Financial Markets Division of the Monetary and Economics Department (Financial Stability Policy) at the Bank for International Settlements (BIS), Professor Schrimpf holds a position of responsibility at one of the most important international institutions in the world economy. As the "bank of central banks" and the oldest international financial organization, BIS plays a key role in the cooperation between central banks and other financial institutions. As part of his role, he leads a team that focuses on the analysis of developments in financial markets, in particular financial stability. Andreas Schrimpf continues to assume a responsible role in the production of BIS's flagship publication, the Quarterly Review, in which highly regarded economic analyses are communicated.

Economic research at the highest level is a central part of the Honorary Professor's work. The issues he addresses are highly relevant to central bank policy and banking practice. Thematically versatile, his work deals, among other things, with quantifying the effects of central bank communication strategies, exchange rate dynamics and information processing in international currency markets, the predictability of (financial) economic variables, and the consideration of uncertainty both in a macroeconomic sense and in terms of model uncertainty. His scientific working papers are published in the leading journals of finance and economics.

Prior to joining BIS, Andreas Schrimpf was a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow at Aarhus University (School of Economics and Management) in Denmark from 2009 to 2011. Prior to this, he worked at the Centre for European Economic Research (ZEW) in Mannheim as a Research Fellow in the Department of International Finance and Financial Management from 2005 to 2009. Already in this position, he knew how to productively combine practical activity and academic research. In 2009, Schrimpf was graduated as an external doctoral candidate and associate of the graduate program of the Faculty of Economics at the University of Tübingen.

With his professional qualifications, his research excellence and his role as one of the persons responsible for the research agenda of BIS, Dr. Andreas Schrimpf is an important strategic partner with whom the cooperation between research and practice of the Department of Economics in the fields of economics and finance will be strengthened.
