Marc Jones, M.A.
Im Rahmen des Teach@Tübingen Programms begrüßt der Lehrstuhl in diesem Semester Marc Owen Jones, der während seines Aufenthaltes ein Seminar zu Politik im Persischen Golf unterrichten wird. Er hat lange Zeit im Nahen Osten gelebt, unter anderem in Bahrain, Sudan und Syrien. Seinen Masterabschluss hat er in Arabisch und Ara World Studies gemacht. 2016 promovierte er an der Universität Durham zum Thema „Methods of Political Repression in Bahrain during 20th and 21st century“. Marc ist zusammen mit Ala'a Shehabi der Herausgeber von „Bahrain's Uprising: Resistance and Repression in The Gulf“. Neben akademischen Publikationen zu Themen wie Demokratisierung und Überwachung, erschien er ebenso im New Statesman, im Independent, bei CNN und der Economist Intelligence Unit. Ein Teil seiner Arbeit hat große öffentliche Aufmerksamkeit bekommen, als er 2011 auf France 24 und Al Jazeera über die Entdeckung der falschen Journalistin Liliane Khalil im Zuge seiner Internetrecherchen berichtete. Marc ist Mitglied der NGO Bahrain Watch. 2015 wurde in der nationalen und internationalen Presse von seinem Prozess gegen das britische Auswärtige Amt berichtete, das Dokumente zurückhielt, die Ian Henderson, der als „Butcher of Bahrain“ bekannt war, betrafen.
