Dr. Nicolae Barsan

Dr. Nicolae Barsan heads the sensor group jointly with Prof. Dr. Udo Weimar. He has more than 15 years of experience in the field of sensing, much of which was gained within the framework of Eropean projects.

The Sensor and Microsystem group is based at the Institute of Physical and Theoretical Chemistry, a self-financing research and graduate training centre created in 1988. The Sensor and Microsystem Group with more than 15 collaborators is a university laboratory where a large number of electrical and interface analysis tools are available.
The group has been working for many years on the production, optimization and characterization of chemical sensors and sensor systems with electric interface analysis tools. The research team has focussed intensively on applied sciences in this area. Especially the domestic environment provides new areas of application of sensor systems. These technologies are known as "Ambient Assisted Living" (AAL). The group has initiated several national and joint European RTD projects, dealing with AAL but also with material science, with sensor topics, promoting international cooperations etc.
