The Department Cell Biology of Neurological Diseases researches cellular and molecular mechanisms of the ageing processes of the brain as well as the contribution of such mechanisms to the formation neuro-degenerative diseases. A special research focus is the pathogenesis of Alzheimer. The department is divided into several sub-groups. Cell culture, transgenic mouse models and Drosophila models are used to study cellular basics and in vivo mechanisms of neuronal plasticity, neuro-immunology and neuro-degenerative diseases as well as potential therapy approaches. In this regard, a variety of molecular and cellular biological, histological, immunological and modern image-guided techinques are applied.
