CIVIS Programme brings students to the heart of EU Decision-Making

Prof. Dr. Gabriele Abels from the University of Tübingen took part in the physical mobility phase, guiding students through a week of hands-on learning in Brussels

From 19 to 23 May 2025, Prof. Dr. Gabriele Abels, Chair of Comparative Politics and European Integration at the University of Tübingen, participated in the physical mobility phase of the CIVIS Blended Intensive Programme (BIP) titled “EU Decision-Making and Its Institutions: Discover the Heart of Brussels.”

In addition to Prof. Dr. Gabriele Abels, the programme also benefited from the expertise of Dr. Elena Brînduşa Nicolaescu (Senior University Lecturer, University of Bucharest) and Andy Edgel (Coordinator of Political Science, Université libre de Bruxelles).

Organised as part of the CIVIS – A European Civic University Alliance, the course brought together students and academic staff from various European partner universities – including, naturally, some from the University of Tübingen – for an immersive week of hands-on learning in Brussels.

This blended intensive programme combined online preparatory sessions, which began in February, with a one-week on-site experience in the heart of the European Union. During their stay, students visited key EU institutions such as the European Parliament, the European Commission, the Council of the EU, and the European Economic and Social Committee.

This CIVIS course exemplifies the alliance's commitment to delivering high-quality, research-based, and experiential learning opportunities that foster European citizenship and cross-border academic cooperation.
