About the Lecture: In this session, Dagmar Vorlíček will introduce the relevance of infrastructure to the study of global security. The lecture will be guided by the following key questions: What are infrastructures and what role have they played in making the modern world and global security? What are infrastructural studies and what do they allow us to see in relation to security? What does it mean to study international politics and security through an infrastructural lens?


Dr. Dagmar Vorlíček is a post-doc University Assistant at the Department of Sociology at the University of Vienna and a Visiting Research Fellow at the School of Global Studies at the University of Sussex. As an interdisciplinary social scientist, she draws on sociology, International Relations, and Science and Technology Studies to explore the politics of global insecurities. Her research focuses on the role of knowledge and expertise in global governance, particularly in the areas of health, biological security, and dual-use research. Empirically, she has conducted and published work on bioweapons, biotechnologies, biobanks, and global health.
