ICGSS Spring Academy 2026: Figurations of the Precarious in the Global South

The Interdisciplinary Centre for Global South Studies (ICGSS) invites you to the Spring Academy 2026, the inaugural event of the DFG Research Training Group 3105, focused on Figurations of the Precarious in the Global South. This Academy provides a unique opportunity for interdisciplinary, international, and intercultural dialogue on theory, methodology, and practice in Global South studies.

Theme The Spring Academy addresses precarity in the Global South, exploring how social actors perceive and interpret everyday situations and precarious living conditions. Drawing on figurations approaches and proximity as method, the program investigates:
Cultural references used to make sense of precarity
Strategies, tactics, and repertoires of resistance mobilized to cope with precarious conditions
Who Should Attend & Registration Open to master’s and doctoral students in the humanities and social sciences interested in trans-area studies of Latin America, Africa, and Asia.
