The Center for Plant Molecular Biology of the Faculty of Science at Tübingen University invites applications for the position of
W1 Tenure-Track Professor for Plant Biochemistry
The position is due to commence as soon as possible.
The successful candidate is expected to develop and carry out an independent research program at the Center for Plant Molecular Biology (ZMBP) on plant biochemistry. The focus of the research program should be on the biochemical aspects of the composition, structure, dynamics and regulation of plant protein complexes and associated molecules.

The successful candidate will be expected to interact with other research groups at the ZMBP and the Department of Biochemistry/Pharmacy, to be actively involved in the further development of the research areas of Plant Science and Biochemistry, and to take on long-term responsibilities in teaching plant biochemistry. Interaction with other groups within the University of Tübingen’s Faculty of Science are also encouraged. This also includes active contribution to established and planned research consortia such as CRCs (e.g. CRC/TRR 356) and the excellence cluster GreenRobust.
The position has a teaching load of four hours per week prior to an interim evaluation, and six hours thereafter.
The successful candidate will benefit from the institutions’ outstanding centralized service units including administration, plant transformation, cytometry/FACS, greenhouses, analytics, imaging, spectromicroscopy, cryoEM and IT support.
Required qualifications include an outstanding doctorate in a pertinent field of plant biochemistry, recognizable potential for internationally acclaimed publications in leading international peer-reviewed journals, and acquisition of third-party funding, as well as teaching experience. For the initial phase, knowledge of German is not required for teaching, but will be expected later on. The appointment prerequisites of § 51 LHG apply. Those who have completed a habilitation or have a comparable qualification will be excluded.
This Tenure-Track position is subject to an interim evaluation after four years and a final evaluation after six years. If the final evaluation after six years is positive, this professorship will be upgraded to a full (W3) professorship with no re-advertising of the position. Research
The BM2 Lab is an interdisciplinary research group at the interface of physics, computer science & biology interested in understanding morphogenesis, bio-mechanics and their interaction in living systems, mainly plants. The BM^2 Lab is mainly computational and uses ad-hoc developed modeling tools such as MorphoMechanX to provide explanatory and predictive scenarios for developmental problems. We are currently focusing on organ bending during ovule growth, chirality establishment in plant tissues, cell wall mechanics and feedback between genetic signaling and mechano-sensing (for more background see Mosca et al. 2024 Curr Biology, Hernandez-Lagana, Mosca et al. 2021 eLife).
Your profile
We are looking for a highly motivated candidate with excellent written and oral English, good communication and teamwork skills, who can work independently and in a goal-oriented manner. The ideal candidate should have an MSc or equivalent in a field connected to computational sciences (i.e. physics, mathematics, computer science, engineering, computational biology) and is fascinated by biological processes. Strong mathematical and analytical skills are desirable as well as some programming experience, while initial exposure to Finite Element Methods & object-oriented C++ programming language would be a plus, but is not required. We also welcome applicants with an MSc degree in biology and who possess a solid aptitude for mathematics and coding.

Postdoc position (m/f/d, E 13 TV-L, 100%) in the Timing of Fate Transitions Lab
A Postdoc position (initially 2 years) is available in our laboratory in the Center for Plant Molecular Biology (ZMBP), at the University of Tübingen (Germany). The position is available with an intended start date starting February 2025.
Research
Our newly established research group studies mechanisms plants use to control the timing of cell fate transitions. During plant development complex organs are formed with meticulously patterned cell identities. However, none of the embryonically specified cells differentiate before germination and their ‘master regulators’ are unable to induce differentiation (for more background see Smit et al. 2023 Dev Cell). In general, we are interested in plant development, cell identity, and pattern formation. In this project you will use single cell approaches to identify which factors in the cell allow for the switch to fate progression.
Your profile
We are looking for a curiosity-driven, highly motivated candidate with good communication and teamwork skills who can work independently in a goal-oriented manner. The candidate should have a PhD in Plant Biology, preferentially with a focus on Developmental Biology or Bioinformatics. Excellent English written and oral skills are required, previous experience with Arabidopsis thaliana, confocal imaging, and single cell approaches are a plus.

Master and or Bachelor Thesis in Plant Pathogen Interactions (RG El Kasmi)
Our research group in the Department for Plant Physiology at the Center for Plant Molecular Biology (ZMBP), University of Tübingen, is offering the possibility for a highly motivated Master and or Bachelor (of Biology, Biochemistry or Cellular Nanoscience) student to do her/his thesis project in our lab.
We are currently working on the characterization of interactors of a plant immune receptor of the NLR family. We would like to validate the preliminary results (interactions observed in yeast-2-hybrid screen) and to further cell biologically, genetically and biochemically characterize the function of the identified proteins during (NLR-mediated) immunity.
The project will include the following methods:
• Molecular analysis (cloning, bacterial transformation, etc.)
• In planta Protein-protein interaction studies (co-immunoprecipitation, BiFC and FRET interaction assays)
• Genetic studies (crosses, genotyping, etc.)
• Plant infection assays

Die Arbeitsgruppe Prof. Dr. Marja Timmermans in der Abteilung Entwicklungsgenetik des Zentrums für Molekularbiologie der Pflanzen (ZMBP) der Universität Tübingen sucht zum nächstmöglichen Zeitpunkt eine/n
FH-Ingenieur/in (m/w/d, E11 TV-L, 100 %)
Die Stelle ist unbefristet. Vorausgesetzt für die Besetzung der Stelle ist ein Studium der Ingenieurwissenschaften (FH) oder gleichwertige Kenntnisse und Erfahrungen. Von dem/der geeigneten Kandidaten/in wird erwartet, dass er/sie völlig selbständig und weitgehend eigenverantwortlich quantitative konfokale Zeitraffer-Bildgebungsdaten von Pflanzenproben erstellt, verarbeitet und analysiert. Darüber hinaus sind umfangreiche methodische Erfahrungen mit modernen entwicklungsgenetischen Ansätzen, einschließlich des Entwurfs, des Aufbaus und des Screenings von stabilen Reporterlinien in Pflanzen, unerlässlich. Die Vorbereitung und Analyse der Proben sowie die Interpretation der Daten erfordern eine detaillierte Diskussion der wissenschaftlichen Fragestellung mit den einzelnen Mitgliedern der Arbeitsgruppe. Neben einem sehr guten Verständnis der pflanzlichen Entwicklungsbiologie ist folgende Erfahrung erforderlich:
- mehrfarbige, mehrdimensionale quantitative konfokale Mikroskopie von Pflanzenproben einschließlich der selbständigen Auswertung komplexer Datensätze mit den am ZMBP verfügbaren Systemen und Software (Leica TCS SP8 und AOBS, Zeiss LSM880 mit Airyscan).
- die Verwendung der MorphoGraphX-Software für die unabhängige Analyse konfokaler Daten mittels Lineage Tracing, 3D-Segmentierung, Quantifizierung der Expression und optischer Schnitte.
- fortgeschrittene molekularbiologische Ansätze, einschließlich der Analyse der Genexpression auf der Ebene einzelner Zellen.
- Entwurf, Konstruktion und Charakterisierung von stabilen Genreporterlinien in Arabidopsis thaliana
Darüber hinaus soll die einzustellende Person die Mitglieder der Arbeitsgruppe beim Erlernen der oben genannten Techniken sowie bei der Organisation der Arbeitsgruppe und der Abteilung für Entwicklungsgenetik der Pflanzen unterstützen.
Als Ansprechpartner*in für die oben genannten Techniken sollte die einzustellende Person teamfähig sein sowie Spaß an der Arbeit und an der Kommunikation mit nationalen und internationalen Wissenschaftler*innen haben. Gute Englischkenntnisse sind deshalb unabdingbar. Außerdem wird erwartet, dass sich die/der zukünftige Stelleninhaber*in selbstständig und aktiv an den Lehraufgaben der Abteilung beteiligt (z.B.
