Umweltmineralogie

Umweltmineralogie & Umweltchemie

Welcome to the online portal of our research group, "Environmental Mineralogy & Chemistry". If you can’t find the information you’re looking for, please feel free to contact us.

Thank you for your interest!

Our research group  focuses on a broad spectrum of topics within molecular environmental sciences, including biogeochemical processes in soils and groundwater, pollutant transformation and phase transfer processes, and the development and application of in situ methods to characterize and quantify processes in both pristine and contaminated water bodies.

Since surface-mediated processes play a crucial role in controlling the transport and transformation of natural and anthropogenic compounds, we seek a process-based understanding of the factors governing the formation of reactive surfaces, particularly at mineral interfaces, and their interactions with organic and inorganic substances.

Our research bridges aquatic and environmental chemistry with geomicrobiology and geochemistry. In both laboratory and field studies, we employ a wide range of advanced analytical tools and techniques including compound-specific stable isotope analysis (CSIA).

Ultimately, our goal is to establish a solid scientific foundation for the assessment, management, and remediation of soil, surface- and groundwaters through an enhanced understanding of key biogeochemical processes.
