Virtual and mixed reality (VR/MR) are developing rapidly and opening up new possibilities for digital learning environments. Despite their long history, these technologies have only become established in education in recent years thanks to better hardware, lower costs, and new application scenarios. However, for schools and teachers to make meaningful use of this potential, they need didactically well-designed applications that actually support learning—not just impress with their technology.

This is where my work comes in: I investigate how VR/MR technologies can contribute to improving the quality of teaching and how immersive learning environments need to be designed to enable adaptive, action-oriented, and insightful learning experiences. The goal is to make VR/MR usable as an innovative tool for personalized learning, thereby opening up new avenues for knowledge transfer.

To exploit this potential, I develop evidence-based VR/MR applications and test them in authentic school contexts. In doing so, I combine technological expertise from over ten years of VR/MR development with practical perspectives from educational research. Through my work at TüCeDE and in the “Future Innovation Space” of the Leibniz Institute for Knowledge Media, I work closely with teachers and students to understand needs, identify challenges, and jointly develop sustainable innovations.
If you are interested in harnessing immersive technologies for education and working together on future-oriented learning environments, I look forward to hearing from you!
