Hector Research Institute of Education Sciences and Psychology

Incoming International Students

How do emotions change students’ learning?
How can we best support intellectually gifted children?
How does the education system affect students’ development?
How can we effectively use digital tools to support students’ learning?

If you are interested in these questions, Tübingen is one of the best places to study.

The Hector Research Institute of Education Sciences and Psychology welcomes international students from all over the world. We offer both a Bachelor’s and Master’s program in Education Sciences and Psychology, which combine psychology, education science, and related disciplines (e.g. data science, cognitive sciences and neuroscience) with sound quantitative methodology to understand current educational issues.

International exchange students who study with us in Tübingen will be able to broaden their understanding of educational sciences and have the opportunity to take German language courses, English language courses of our curriculum of elective courses, as well as additional transdisciplinary courses on other topics during their stay.

Application and Admission Process

There are different ways to apply for an exchange at our faculty. If you are from Europe, there is the inner-Europe exchange program ERASMUS. If you're not from a European country, you may benefit from our worldwide network of partner universities.

Incoming exchange students are administrated centrally at the International Office. You will be admitted as non-degree student for one or two semesters. As an international program student, you will be able to register for classes and earn credits under the same conditions as regular students at our university.

English Course Offer

During your stay at our study program, you can attend various courses that are being taught in English. While the mandatory courses in our Bachelor’s and Master’s program are predominantly held in German, we also have international staff members so many of the courses in the programs’ elective module are also taught in English.

The following English-language courses will be offered in the upcoming winter term 2026/27:

  • Emotions in Education
  • Mixed Methods in Empirical Research
  • Technology-Enhanced Learning for Inclusive and Equitable Education
  • Adaptive Teaching and Learning
  • Vocabulary Acquisition in First and Second Language
  • Thesis Projects Made Easy: Tools and AI for Thesis Writing
  • Critical Thinking Skills to understand Educational Research (Master’s students only)

You can find the current and upcoming course catalogue on the university’s learning management platform alma. To get an overview of the Hector Research Institute’s complete course offer, navigate to “Studies offered” -> “Show university course catalogue” -> “6 Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences” -> “Education Sciences and Psychology” -> “Educational Sciences and Psychology – Bachelor of Science” or “Educational Science and Psychology – Master of Science”
