Maximilian Irion

Doctoral Researcher at the Hector Institute / Competence Center for Sustainable Development and Research Associate at the Institute of Romance Languages and Literatures at Goethe University Frankfurt

Graduation 2024

I chose the Master’s program in EBPP… to further develop my methodological skills in the field of empirical social research in a focused way.

What I liked most about the EBPP Master’s program … was that its structure gave us insight into diverse educational contexts in which evidence-based decisions must be made and where experts with a broad scientific profile are therefore in high demand.

One of the most interesting projects I worked on during my studies … was the design, analysis, and documentation of a study on the influence of female role models on students’ STEM-related self-concept.

My career advice: Sharpen your profile and reflect consciously on the context in which you want to contribute to improving teaching, learning, or educational processes. Stay open to new ideas: internships, side jobs, and advanced elective courses can all help you find your direction.

Michelle Pantis

Doctoral Researcher at the University Hospital Tübingen, Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry

B.Sc. EBPP Graduation in 2022, M.Sc. EBPP Graduation in 2024

I chose the Master’s program in EBPP because … an excellent methodological specialization in my graduate studies was important to me, and I had already greatly enjoyed the Bachelor’s program in EBPP.

What I liked most about the EBPP Master’s program … was the small, close-knit cohort, and that through the methodological specialization, I was able to learn and apply many exciting new methods.

The most interesting projects during my studies … were the cross-semester project seminars, in which I worked on sentiment analyses of tweets and data estimation using multiple imputation.

My career advice: Follow the path that’s fun, and good things will come from it!

Dr. Laura Braun

Projektmanagerin Wübben Stiftung

Graduation 2017

I chose the Master’s program in EBPP because … I wanted to better understand educational processes on both the individual and institutional levels.

My most interesting project during my studies … was my master’s thesis on the consequences of the G8 reform.

What I liked most about the EBPP Master’s program … was its interdisciplinary orientation, the thorough and practice-oriented methodological training, the direct connection to real research projects, and the close, supportive atmosphere.

What I particularly enjoy about my current job is … that I can bring my experience from educational research into dialogue with educational practice and administration.

Why Study the Master of Science in EBPP in Tübingen?

“I especially liked the insights into the ongoing research at the Hector Institute during the EBPP Master’s program. Current national and international studies were also discussed in various seminars. The lecturers are highly motivated, and I received excellent support when working on my academic papers.”

Vera Aenis

Project Manager at delphi Gesellschaft

Graduation 2016

What I liked most about the EBPP Master’s program was … that it is influenced by many disciplines: educational research, sociology, psychology, statistics, and many more.

Before starting my career … , I never would have thought that my methodological expertise would allow me to find my footing so well in a completely new field: health promotion and addiction prevention.

My career advice: Empirical educational research is an interdisciplinary field, which means that graduates of the EBPP program are well-equipped for a wide range of careers in social research.

Markus Kleinhansl

Research Associate at the Hector Institute

Graduation 2018

I chose the Master’s program in EBPP because … I am fascinated by learning processes in different environments and across various stages of life.

What I liked most about the EBPP Master’s program … was that I had the opportunity to gain diverse insights into ongoing research projects and to apply what I learned directly, both as a student assistant and in my master’s thesis.

My most interesting project during my studies … was the implementation of the MoMa-Interventions (Motivationsförderung im Mathematikunterricht) in 9th-grade classrooms as part of a practical seminar.

My career advice: Talk to people from different fields — feel free to reach out to me!

Lisa Zachrich

Research Associate at the Hector Institute

Graduation 2017

I chose the Master’s program in EBPP because … after gaining insights into a teachers’ lounge, I became curious about how educational research arrives at its findings.

What I liked most about the EBPP Master’s program was … that we gained diverse insights into current research and the state of knowledge in the field of educational research and educational psychology.

At the beginning of my master’s studies, I never would have thought that my next step would be a PhD
