University of Tübingen establishes Research Centre for Science Communication

The Hector Research Institute of Education Sciences and Psychology acts as cooperation partner

The University of Tübingen is founding a Research Centre for Science Communication, which will be led by Olaf Kramer, Professor of Rhetoric and Knowledge Communication and member of the LEAD Graduate School & Research Network. The university is thus responding to the urgent need for professional communication between science and the public.

Cooperation partners of the new centre are the University's Institute for Media Studies, the Hector Research Institute of Education Sciences and Psychology and the Leibniz Institute for Knowledge Media (IWM) as a non-university partner.

"Science is communicated through more and more channels," explains Director Kramer. "Only an interdisciplinary centre is able to analyse and present these diverse ways and effects of science communication."

Since science communication, in contrast to corporate communication, is still a young field of research, the need for scientific work in this area is great, Kramer continues. Tübingen is ideally suited as a location for this challenge, he said.

"Tübingen can boast outstanding researchers in all fields relevant to this topic - from educational research to computer science, cognitive and media sciences, psychology and rhetoric."
