Alumni reaches Champions League Final

9.9.20: From Tübingen to the final of the UEFA Women's Champions League in San Sebastián (Spain) – As assistant coach of the Bundesliga club VfL Wolfsburg, Theresa Merk (Alumni of the Master Program in Sport Management) has won together with her team the 2020 German Bundesliga Championship as well as the DFB Cup.

Theresa Merk's career is an outstanding example of the various opportunities offered by a sports science degree program in Tübingen and demonstrates how expertise acquired during the study program can be further developed and implemented successfully.

After graduating from the Master Program in Sport Management, she gained her first experience as an association sports teacher with the Mittelrhein Football Association and completed her professional qualification in 2019 with the highest coaching license in German professional football. During an internship Merk got in contact with the successful Bundesliga club VfL Wolfsburg. Since summer 2019, she has been working as an assistant to head coach Stephan Lerch and is responsible (amongst others) for analyzing each match.

After winning this year's national championship as well as the DFB Cup, the final of the UEFA Women's Champions League on August 30, 2020 was the highlight of her still young career. After the tight defeat in the final, the club is now preparing for the new Bundesliga season. The Institute wishes Theresa Merk all the best for her career and many more successful coaching years.
