Implementation of a Data Science and Sports Lab

A Data Science and Sports Lab has been established at the University of Tübingen. Several Institutions, including the Cluster of Excellence, are involved.

Under the umbrella of the Data Science and Sports Lab (DSSL), which is coordinated by Prof. Tim Pawlowski, researchers from the Institute of Sports Science and the Methods Center of the Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences join forces with colleagues from other institutions and universities in order to explore different topics at the intersection of economics, psychology and sports science. Researchers aim at analyzing intensive longitudinal multilevel data from sports settings with machine learning methods. Six ongoing projects are organized in two research lines, i.e. Sports Consumer Behavior as well as Athletes, Teams and Performance. For further information, refer to the DSSL webpage.

One of the six projects is carried out in cooperation with the Cluster of Excellence “Machine Learning – New Perspectives for Science” (see Cluster News). Are you excited about the possibilities machine learning can bring to science? Apply now for a PhD position in this project, “Modelling Behavioral Responses to Emotional Cues in Sports – A Bayesian Approach” (Job Ad).

A second PhD position in sports economics, which will be affiliated with the DSSL, is open (see Job Ad).
