VDS young talent award for Markus Sutera

The Institute of Sports Science congratulates Markus Sutera (Alumni of the B.A. program in Sport Media and Communication) for winning the Young Journalist Award of the Association of German Sports Journalists (VDS).

Markus Sutera is alumni of the B.A. program in Sport Media and Communication and currently works for the German magazine “Der Spiegel”. His article “Ausgewechselt” (“Replaced”) (published on November 23, 2019 in “Der Spiegel”), which describes the pathway of a transsexual young soccer player, won the first prize in the competition for young journalists (topic: “Gender justice in sport”). The jury of the award, which is promoted by the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB), reasoned: “The text is linguistically excellent, very balanced and empathic in reflecting the disruptive feelings of the main character“.
