B.Ed. Economics (teacher training)

The Program

The students of the Bachelor of Education receive a wide-ranging education at the School of Business and Economics within the subject science, the subject didactics as well as related disciplines.

The aim of the programme is to develop basic scientific skills, to develop them further in the long term and to critically examine current economic issues. The B.Ed. thus offers a first general, scientifically sound, occupation-related qualification for graduates in the field of economics. In addition to a basic education in economics, the programme also includes specialisation in other core subjects of business administration (e.g. investment and finance; marketing; cost accounting; HRM and organization). In addition to the specialist scientific training, there is also a specialist didactic training which prepares students for teaching in the Gymnasium in a practice-oriented manner. In the educational part of the course, students gain insight into pedagogical and school pedagogical issues. With the successful completion of the Bachelor's programme, the graduates are able to move safely in the complex knowledge worlds of economics. Not only do they have solid analytical and methodological skills to describe, classify and interpret concrete economic processes, but they are also able to close gaps in their knowledge quickly and effectively.

The B.Ed. Economics sub-degree course comprises the modules listed in the table.

The standard period of study for the Bachelor of Education in Economics is 6 semesters. The Bachelor of Education comprises a total of 180 ECTS credits, of which at least 81 ECTS credits are completed in economics (or 87 ECTS credits if the Bachelor thesis is completed in economics). The remaining ECTS credits are for the educational sciences and the achievements to be made in the second subject.

Deadlines and beginning

Application deadline: July 15

The course starts in the winter semester (October).

The admission of students to all Bachelor's programmes is regulated by an abitur grade-based selection procedure. In recent years, the "Numerus Clausus" has been between 1.7 and 2.3 for Abitur grades. Numerous criteria such as practical experience or qualified stays abroad can improve the chances of admission.

The program is free of tuition fees for all EU citizens.

Career

On the one hand, the Bachelor of Education degree forms the basis for an advanced Master's programme, which prepares students for the commencement of their legal traineeship (Referendariat). On the other hand, a direct career entry is possible, because after graduation the students have basic economic knowledge as well as pedagogical competences, which also enable them to enter a company or an educational institution.

Building on the B.Ed. in Economics, the M.Ed. Economics has been in operation since the 2018/19 winter semester.

 

Teaching political science/economics

You can find a plan with the courses to be completed in the Economics section in the download area B.Sc. The course Lehramt Politikwissenschaft/Wirtschaftswissenschaft (GymPO) was closed in the winter semester 2015/16 and can no longer be started. Registered students are not affected. Since winter semester 2015/16, a B.Ed. in Economics and a B.Ed. in Political Science have been established instead.
