The exchange of students and academics with Brazil has a long and fruitful tradition in Tübingen. The Baden Württemberg Centre for Brazil and Latin America, which looks after these contacts, is based at the university.

Unibral
There is an agreement with the Brazilian partner university USP (University of São Paulo), Campus Ribeirão Preto, for the exchange of students in the fields of biology and geoecology. This exchange programme has been running since 1985, and currently 3 students in their main studies are exchanged each year for one academic year. The Tübingen participants begin in March with the 1st semester of the Brazilian academic year and stay until the end of the 2nd semester there, at the end of the year. A partial scholarship is offered for the 10 months from March to December, plus costs for travel and insurance.
The UNIBRAL programme is managed by the Centre for Brazil and Latin America. Applications must be submitted to the centre by the end of November. A prerequisite for participation is knowledge of Brazilian Portuguese, which can be acquired in language courses offered each semester and completed with an examination based on the DAAD model. It is recommended that students prepare for the programme by attending Brazil-related courses.
At USP, the range of courses offered in tropical biology disciplines is particularly interesting. In addition, there is the opportunity to take part in excursions and to complete internships in laboratories and research stations.
