From 1th to 30th of June, several events will take place in the City of Tübingen and at the University, inviting people to engage with queer issues. In cooperation with local initiatives, the city administration and university have put together a diverse programme that includes lectures, workshops, readings, art exhibitions, concerts and much more. The events offer space for discussions, encounters and dialogue.
Pride Month has its origin in the Stonewall Riots of 1969 in New York, when the LGBTQIA+ community took a stand against discrimination and police violence. Since then, June has been celebrated worldwide as Pride Month to strengthen the rights of LGBTIQA+ people and recognise diversity.
As part of Pride Month, the Centre for Gender and Diversity Studies organised the following events in cooperation with the College of Fellows:
The exhibition Giving Voice features personal stories and reports that highlight the experiences of LGBTQAI+ people in different cultural contexts - whether it's about coming out, the struggle for acceptance, moments of freedom or dreams for the future.
The screening of two short films: Mary and Manju by Sarala Emmanuel, a feminist activist who tells the stories of older transgender people from Sri Lanka.
