Dr. Tao Yuan has been working as a research associate in the Hydrogeology workgroup in the Geo- and Environmental Research Center at the University of Tübingen since Sept. 2022. From Mar. 2019 to Aug. 2022, he worked as a post-doctoral research associate in the Reactive Transport Department, Institute of Resource Ecology at the Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden-Rossendorf (HZDR) and joined the project "Integrity of nuclear waste repository systems - Cross-scale system understanding and analysis" (iCross). He holds a Ph.D. degree in Petroleum Engineering from the University of Houston, USA, an MS degree in Petroleum Engineering from the University of Houston, USA, and a BS degree in theoretical and applied mechanics from the University of Science and Technology of China, China. 

Dr. Yuan's research focuses on the fundamental understanding of how geochemical and microbial reactions influence coupled subsurface fluid flow and multicomponent reactive transport processes across multiple spatial and temporal scales. His research involves the development and application of multi-scale numerical models and simulations using Computational Fluid Dynamics methods. Key applications include underground hydrogen storage, heat transfer in geothermal systems, nuclear waste storage in host rocks, contaminant migration in groundwater systems, and enhanced oil recovery in petroleum reservoirs.
