Media Informatics Group

The Media Informatics Group at the University of Tübingen investigates how people interact with digital technologies today and how they will interact with them in the future. Our research lies at the intersection of human-computer interaction, ubiquitous computing, mixed reality, and interactive systems. We design, build, and evaluate novel forms of interaction that make digital technology more usable, perceptive, and meaningful in everyday life.

One question guiding our work is what comes after the smartphone: which devices, interfaces, and experiences will shape the next generation of human-computer interaction? To answer this, we combine technical system building with empirical user studies, exploring topics such as mobile and wearable interaction, haptics, latency, virtual and augmented reality, avatars, perception, and user experience. In research and teaching, we emphasize hands-on work with interactive prototypes and experimental systems that help us understand and actively shape the future of digital media.
