This volume is the result of twelve years of interdisciplinary research conducted within the framework of the Collaborative Research Centre SFB 1070 “ResourceCultures”. It brings together contributions from a wide range of disciplines (including archaeology, anthropology, geography, soil science, theology, history, cultural studies, and political science) to examine how both tangible and intangible resources shape identities, social transformations, spatial dynamics, and systems of valuation across historical and contemporary contexts.
The book introduces an innovative analytical approach to resources that considers not only their structured, functional networks (Resource Complexes) but also their dynamic, contingent, and historically embedded relationships (ResourceAssemblages). In addition to theoretical chapters, the volume includes over ten in-depth case studies from diverse regions around the world, including Iran, Spain, the Balearic Islands, South America, and more.
