Participation in EUROSOIL 2025 September 8 – 12, 2025
Two members of the Soil Science and Geomorphology Research Group, Kerstin Rau and Rabindra Adhikari, participated in the official congress of the European Confederation of Soil Science Societies (ECSSS), held in Seville, Spain, during September 8–12, 2025. Both researchers made active contributions to the congress, which attracted over 1,000 participants, through one oral presentation and one poster presentation. Ms. Rau presented her research on “Quantifying Spatial Uncertainty to Improve the Prediction of Soil Properties in Data-Sparse Regions.” She highlighted the use of Bayesian deep learning techniques, specifically Laplace Approximations, to quantify spatial uncertainty—an aspect that remains largely overlooked in current soil research.
Mr. Adhikari presented a poster titled “Physico-Chemical and Mineralogical Characterization of a Soil Toposequence on Isla Santa Cruz (Galápagos),” which confirmed the presence of andic soil properties in the highlands of Santa Cruz, Galápagos’. His work contributes valuable insights into soil evolution in the scarcely studied soils of the Galápagos Islands.
The congress provided excellent opportunities for engaging in scientific discussions, professional networking, and experiencing the vibrant culture and warm climate of Seville, Spain.
