The prestigious 'The Gruber Foundation fellowship’ 2024 of the International Astronomical Union awarded to Mr Honghui Liu
The prestigious 'The Gruber Foundation fellowship’ 2024 of the International Astronomical Union has been awarded to Mr. Honghui Liu, who is completing his PHD study at Fudan University, Shanghai, and will join the High Energy Astrophysics Section of the Institute of Astronomy and Astrophysics soon as Assistant to the Chair of High Energy Astrophysics.
The Gruber Foundation (TGF) has created the GF Fellowship Programme with the aim of promoting the science of cosmology and other branches of astronomy, in light of the highest possible international scientific standing.
The IAU Executive Committee recognizes this contribution and collaborates with the foundation in the nomination of candidates and the selection of recipients. The awarded Fellowship is intended as a research grant covering travel, subsistence and research expenses supplementing a postdoctoral appointment at a host institution. The Fellowship is awarded to an extremely promising, early career astrophysicist, working in any field of astrophysics, either theoretical, observational or experimental. The host institute for the postdoctoral appointment, must be a center of excellence in the applicant's field of research.
Mr. Honghui Liu is an outstanding young scientist expert in X-ray astrophysical studies of compact objects and in particular of black holes. Given his outstanding performance as PHD student in Fudan, he has been offered the position of Assistant to the Chair of High Energy Astrophysics in Tübingen, led by Prof. Andrea Santangelo, and will start in Tübingen in Summer 2024. Among the different offers received, Mr. Liu has decided to join the IAAT, as a center of excellence, in which to continue to construct his academic and scientific career in high energy astrophysics.
The University of Tübingen and the University of Fudan, a top institution in the Chinese academic landscape, have recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding to expand the basis for friendship and cooperative educational exchange. In particular, the IAAT and the Fudan department of Physics have a long-standing collaboration in astrophysics, which has produced outstanding scientific results.
