Prof. Dr. ZHANG Xiaogui 張小貴

Visiting Researcher of Chinese History at the Department of Chinese Studies, University of Tübingen, from August 2018 to August 2019, supported by Peng Linji (彭磷基) Fund for Advanced Studies Abroad of Jinan University

In 2003, Prof. Zhang completed his M.A. degree at Beijing Normal University, with a major in History. He obtained his Ph.D. degree at Sun Yat-sen University in Guangzhou City in 2006, with Prof. Lin Wushu as supervisor. The focus of his studies was on ancient Persian religion. The title of his Ph.D. dissertation is Tangdai Xianjiao de Huahua xingtai 唐宋祆教的华化形态 (The Sinicized Form of Zoroastrianism during the Tang and Song Periods).
From 2006, Prof. Zhang has been teaching at the Department of History, Ji’nan University, in Guangzhou City, where in 2015 he obtained the position of a professor. From September 2010 to August 2011 he was a Visiting Scholar at SOAS, University of London, and from August 2018 to August 2019 he is a Visiting Professor at the Department of Chinese Studies at Tübingen University, Germany.
Prof. Zhang has published the followings books: A Chinese translation of Mary Boyce’s A Persian Stronghold of Zoroastrianism (Yilan Suoluoyasidejiao cunluo 伊朗瑣羅亞斯德教村落), Beijing: Zhonghua shuju, 2005; Zhonggu Huahua xianjiao kaoshu 中古華化祆教考述 (A Study of Sinicized Zoroastrianism in Medieval China), Beijing: Wenwu chubanshe, 2010; Xianjioshi kaolun yu shuping 祆教史考論與述評 (Studies and Reviews on the History of Zoroastrianism), Lanzhou: Lanzhou University Press, 2013; (ed.) Sanyijiao yanjiu – Lin Wushu jiaoshou guxi jinian lunwenji 三夷教研究——林悟殊教授古稀紀念論文集 (Studies on Three Persian Religions: Festschrift for Prof. Lin Weishu for his Seventieth Birthday), Lanzhou: Lanzhou University Press, 2014. Moreover, he has published a number of scholarly articles on ancient Zoroastrian history and culture on the Silk Road.
Now, Prof. Zhang is focusing on ancient Persian law and society, Arabs in the Song Dynasty, and Parsis history from India to China.
