Prof. Wladislaw Mill on Discrimination in Professional Networks in the Business Research Seminar

Wladislaw Mill (Assistant Professor for Behavioral Economics at the University of Mannheim) presented his paper “LinkedOut - discrimination in job network formation” (together with Yulia Evsyukova and Felix Rusche) at the Business Research Seminar of the University of Tübingen. Prof. Mill was invited by the Chair of HRM & Organization to talk about his research. The paper presents evidence of racial discrimination in the formation of online job networks using the professional social networking site LinkedIn. The authors created more than 400 fictitious profiles and randomly assigned a profile picture of either a black or a white male, and they find significant discrimination in the response to contact requests from real users on LinkedIn.
