We are pleased to announce the 2nd Conference on Geoeconomics: New Developments and Historical Perspectives, which will take place at Castle Tübingen on April 17th –18th, 2026. Organized by Jörg Baten (U Tübingen & CEPR), Anna Gumpert (U Tübingen & CEPR), Ralph Lütticke (U Tübingen & CEPR), Gernot Müller (U Tübingen & CEPR), and Moritz Schularick (IfW Kiel, Science Po & CEPR) the conference brings together leading scholars to discuss the intersection of economics, history, and international relations.
Over two days, participants will present new research on topics such as the historical evolution of global trade systems, industrial and subsidy policies, geopolitics and economic development, and the role of global banking and finance in an era of geoeconomic fragmentation. The program combines long-run historical perspectives with cutting-edge empirical work on contemporary international economic policy.
The conference will feature a keynote lecture by Christoph Trebesch of the Kiel Institute for the World Economy and a dinner lecture by Moritz Schularick, bringing together researchers and policy-oriented economists for discussion and exchange in the historic setting of Castle Tübingen.
We gratefully acknowledge the generous support of the Thyssen Foundation, which makes the organization of this conference possible.
