PhD student (f/m/d)

Research Field: Nutrients and plant invasion under climate change

Duration: 4 years 

Payment according to TV-L 13,  65%

Starting date: 01.12.2026

Project: The successful applicant will study the effect of invasive plant species on nutrient cycling on the Galápagos Islands, Ecuador. The project comprises field trips to the Galápagos Islands and lab work in Germany. The study is embedded in the new Research Unit GArua of the German Science Foundation (DFG) on “Fog-dependent water relations and plant invasion in the Galápagos Archipelago under climate change”. The position is part of Subproject C2 (lead by Yvonne Oelmann) “Nutrients as a response to and control of plant invasion under climate change” with the aim to gain a doctoral degree in Geoecology. 

Your profile: We are looking for a dynamic, serious, and motivated researcher with a Master degree in Geoecology, Geochemistry, Environmental/Organic Chemistry, Geoscience, Physical Geography, Landscape Ecology, Environmental Sciences, Forestry, Agricultural Sciences, Biology, or related disciplines. The successful candidate should have extended knowledge of biogeochemical processes in ecosystems with a particular focus on stable isotopes and laboratory experience in wet chemistry. In addition, the candidate should have good communication skills to work in a highly collaborative and international environment, as well as a very good command of written and spoken English. Knowledge of German and Spanish is appreciated but is not a requirement.
