The study programme Master of Education Erweiterungsfach Lehramt Gymnasium is an independent master programme which requires the degree Bachelor of Education Lehramt Gymnasium, even though it is in fact not a consecutive master programme. For the study programme students choose a subject which they have not chosen in the associated Bachelor of Education. The study programme solely consists of this study of the subject without an educational science part. Mathematics can be chosen to be this subject.
The study programme is a scientific study of mathematics. The scientific and methodological basics in mathematics alongside with its didactics are taught in order to enable the students to teach mathematics at the secondary school. Furthermore the didactics part offers first steps in the direction of professional expertise.
The mathematical part of the study programme is clearly structured and consists entirely of compulsory modules with restricted individual opportunities of choice. In the first year the students acquire the basics of Analysis and Linear Algebra, which are fundamental for all branches of mathematics. Based on this the mathematical knowledge is deepnd in the classical fields of algebra and geometry as well as in the more application related fields stochastics and numerics. Parallel to the scientific lectures there are associated didactic courses which address the basic conceptual questions of how to present and teach mathematics.
