Digitalization in Teacher Education

Problem Statement/Objective of the Special Interest Group (SIG)

Digitalization affects all areas of society. The effective use of digital media in the classroom is considered as one of the central challenges facing 21st century society in shaping a successful education system. Those involved in education are aware that improving the technical equipment of educational institutions is not enough to ensure that digital media are used effectively in the classroom. This project aims to implement a comprehensive and long-term master plan for teacher education at the University of Tübingen. This plan is to enable the digitalization-related competences of teaching staff to be developed with a basis in research. In particular, research will be carried out on how and whether digital media can be used to facilitate subject-specific teaching-learning processes, and which conditions for success must be met for the didactically appropriate use of digital media.
