Frequently asked questions about Summer & Winter Schools for postdoctoral researchers
APPLICATION
How long after the doctorate am I considered a postdoc?
Six years after the doctorate (date of the PhD certificate) are counted as the postdoc period. Childcare leave is additionally recognized.
Do the institute directors and deans have to sign personally?
All signatures are mandatory. If, in exceptional cases, it is not possible to obtain the signature of the institute director or the dean, please contact the Excellence Strategy Department.
In this case, a digital signature is sufficient in combination with a personal e-mail from the institute director or dean to exu@uni-tuebingen.de supporting the application.
Is a firm commitment from the keynote speaker required?
No. A planned invitation is sufficient.
When will I receive notification of the decision on my application?
Usually, the decision is announced approximately 3 months after the application deadline.
Can I reapply for the programs?
Yes. If your application is denied, you may resubmit it in revised form upon recommendation of the Research Questions Committee. If successful, you may reapply with a different topic. Continuation of successful events will not be funded within the scope of this funding format.
Are printing costs, e.g. for a conference volume, covered?
No. Please apply elsewhere for grants for printing and publication costs.
IMPLEMENTATION AND INVOICING
Is it possible to postpone the event?
Yes, with sufficient justification and initially for 6 months. Additional 6 months are possible in exceptional cases.
Are cancellation fees refundable?
When reserving hotel rooms or booking tickets, please arrange cancellation options that are as short term and free of charge as possible. Also point this out to participants who make their own bookings.
As a rule, no cancellation fees will be refunded.
In the case of bookings made through the University of Tübingen's contract travel agency, cancellation fees may be covered in case of a justified cancellation of the event.
Is it possible to change from face-to-face to online or hybrid events?
This is possible upon application to the Excellence Strategy Department. Please submit a short justification and, if necessary, a financial plan adapted to changed requirements.
