Study abroad - what are the steps to take?

  1. Choosing a country and university: Which country or university interests you? Get information about countries and partner universities from the departmental coordinators (for an Erasmus+ exchange in Europe) or the International Office (for an exchange outside Europe and with Erasmus+ worldwide).

Hint! The International Office also offers info sessions every semester about studying abroad and the different partner countries.

  2. Timing: There is no fixed time frame for studying abroad in teacher training study program, but we recommend that you choose to study abroad during your bachelor's degree. It is important to start planning early (e.g., application deadlines, requirements of the host university, which modules can be completed abroad or, if necessary, taken in advance, etc.). Please note that you will need approximately 12-15 months of preparation time before you can go abroad.

  3. Funding: Clarify what costs you will be facing and find out about financial support options (scholarships, BAföG for studying abroad, Erasmus+, PROMOS, etc.).

  4. Application: Check with the International Office for application deadlines and requirements (e.g., academic progress, language skills, letters of recommendation, etc.) and take preparatory courses if necessary.
